January 21 2010 - Airport scanners more about optics and politics

This edition of PrivacyScan features an essay by Murray Long on the deployment of full body scanners at airports.  Murray admits he can't decide if full body scanners are a necessary step, or the best and most effective means of improving air travel security. He does believe that, in deploying these machines, Canada is driven as much by political necessity as by their value in thwarting terrorism.  He ends his article with a warning that technology creep in the use of full body scanners is on the way and airports are just the beginning of how this technology will be used.
